Position Information Title: Public Safety Telecommunicator Department: Rutgers Police Location: College Ave (RU-New Brunswick), New Brunswick, NJ Posting Summary Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator for the Police Department. Key duties include: Monitors, receives, and coordinates all communications with university police, emergency management, and emergency services, including communications between external partners and emergency 9‑1‑1 calls. Receives and coordinates all after‑business‑hours calls for facilities maintenance requests. Handles in‑person, text, application‑based, and telephone inquiries from the public. Refers calls or dispatches assistance as appropriate. Provides medical pre‑arrival instructions for 9‑1‑1 calls. Monitors, updates, and maintains various departmental computer‑based systems, including electronic records management, NextGen 9‑1‑1 telephone and CAD systems, and Text to 9‑1‑1 application. Certifications / Licenses Must be a certified 9‑1‑1 operator or obtain certification within 90 days of employment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non‑computerized formats. Effective communication and client‑service skills. Consent to undergo and authorize fingerprint, criminal history, and/or child abuse record checks, and to pay any associated costs. Pass physical and psychological examinations. Complete continuing education credits to maintain certifications. Work various shifts, including weekends, overnights, and holidays; occasional overtime is required. Preferred Qualifications Radio communications or dispatcher experience. Professional computer experience. Compensation Grade: 17 Salary Range: Minimum $46,603.04, Mid $54,860.94, Maximum $63,466.66.
