Generalist and Clinical Chemistry Supervisor Full Time, Day Shift, Salary $95,000 - $125,000 per year. Location: RWJBarnabas Health Corporate Services, 300 Second Ave, Long Branch, NJ. Department: Lab MMC. Schedule Monday to Friday with rotating weekends. Must be available to respond during off hours for emergency cases. Responsibilities Supervise, coordinate, and participate in activities of employees performing routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical tests, and complex procedures on blood to assist physicians. Assume responsibility for recognizing results or problems that require referral to Medical Director or Administrative Director/Manager. Provide day-to-day oversight of inpatient and outpatient laboratories and oversee related laboratory operations. Take ownership of directing Laboratory operations and support the entire laboratory and Pathology service. Supervise clinical operations of the clinical laboratory department. Work closely with the Laboratory Director/Manager to coordinate a wide variety of administrative, technical, fiscal, and educational activities to provide quality laboratory services. Collaborate across multi-disciplinary groups representing the clinical labs. Organize, develop, plan, and implement Section and Departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary for providing quality patient care. Must be accessible to testing personnel at all times during testing to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems. Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptance levels of analytic performance. Assist the Administrative Director or designee with reports, including productivity, quality, and improvement suggestions. Manage the operations of the department. Maintain all quality and service standards. Adhere to department budget. Implement, enforce, and monitor all QC, QA, service, safety, and compliance indicators and programs. Supervise staff including training and competency assessment. Perform interviews, hiring, and participate in corrective action steps. Conduct annual employee performance evaluations. Hold staff meetings and maintain minutes. Produce, monitor, and maintain productivity, quality, and TAT metrics. Prepare and revise SOPs and manuals. Participate in inventory control. Document and complete special projects in a timely manner. Oversee cleanliness of laboratory. Troubleshoot technical equipment and computer-related problems. Validate methodology and instrumentation. Perform additional tasks as requested by Medical Director or designee. Use equipment and instruments such as microscopes, centrifuges, chemistry/urinalysis analyzers, and computers. Have specialized knowledge in Chemistry with ability to work in a high-volume, labor-intensive department. Knowledge of Vista, GEMS, and Cobas Pro is a plus. Ensure appropriate reporting of department activities to Administrative Director. Assist Pathologists in the educational process of medical students and technologists. Qualifications BS/BA Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science. Meet NJ Sanitary Code Chapter 44, Chapter IV, 8:44-2. Meet general laboratory supervisor qualifications along with CAP and CLIA requirements. Ability to provide leadership and direction. Dependable, flexible, adaptable with strong interpersonal skills. Exceptional analytical, technical, and organizational skills. Excellent understanding of quality control procedures, including Levy‑Jennings plot analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Superior time management and critical thinking skills. Proficient in MS Office applications and good working knowledge of computers. License/Certifications Meet CAP and CLIA requirements. Certified MLS(ASCP) required or similar nationally recognized certification. Preferred Criteria Master's Degree preferred. Experience managing a clinical laboratory team in a large hospital organization or trauma center. Current experience as a laboratory supervisor/manager. EPIC LIS preferred.
