ASSISTANT HIGHWAY PATROL FOREMAN - District 2

Position Details Title: Assistant Highway Patrol Foreman Location: 8 Eastman Hill Road, Enfield, NH Position #: 20529 Compensation: $19.96 per hour - $26.41 per hour. Trainee status pay: $19.23 per hour. Summary Serve as an Assistant Patrol Foreman, supervising and coordinating assignments for crews and contractors 24/7 throughout all seasons and weather conditions. Ensure all work meets regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements and follows department policies. Minimum Qualifications Equivalent combination of 3 years of education/experience after high‑school completion, in civil technology, public works, highway maintenance, or general construction, with at least one year performing all phases of highway maintenance work. Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B (CDL‑B) with appropriate endorsements. Other Requirements Motor Vehicle Record meets the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency. Must receive a negative result on a pre‑employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements. Must be able to lift / carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis. Must have a telephone or acceptable means of communication and be available 24 hours per day. Must be available to respond to highway maintenance call outs on a 24‑hour per day basis to be eligible for maintenance stipend. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major in civil technology or public works administration, or two years of college with a minimum of six semester hours in civil technology or public works administration. Career Advancement Opportunities In‑Band Advancement available: No. Broad Group Level Advancement available: No. Responsibilities Assists with hiring and training patrol crews, mechanized equipment operators, and entry‑level personnel. Inspects tasks to ensure quality, timely completion, appropriate use of resources, and adherence to safety and environmental guidelines. Alerts the Highway Patrol Foreman of any issues or concerns; develops and maintains respectful working relations within crews. Reviews work schedules, staffing and job assignments to ensure efficient coverage; collaborates with other Assistant Patrol Foremen as necessary. Maintains section and personnel records, including time/attendance, data tracking, and documentation. Makes recommendations regarding staffing, equipment, materials or operational needs. Supervises patrol crews in the absence of a Foreman to provide continuity of operations. Performs tasks intermittently involving heavy physical labor such as drainage construction, building and equipment maintenance/repair, and general road maintenance. Operates commercial trucks (> 26,001 GVW), tractors, loaders, and related highway equipment. Performs assigned tasks under adverse conditions with exposure to high‑speed traffic, hazardous materials, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and disaster situations. Ensures maintenance of all equipment, buildings, and facilities for proper operation and safety. Observes environmental and road conditions to determine appropriate actions for plowing or road maintenance interventions. Monitors the rate‑of‑application of highway materials and substances to ensure adequate supplies and efficient use. Records, tracks, and inputs data on material/supplies for cost accounting and reporting. Meets with local officials, abutters, and contractors regarding access and utility permits. Responds immediately to winter maintenance and other traffic emergency activities on a 24‑hour basis throughout the year. Performs work in full conformance with all risk management, safety, and environmental standards.
