Lead Quality Assurance Engineer

Salary: $112,000 - 130,000 per year Requirements:

• 4+ years leading quality engineering activities, preferably in metal fabrication or manufacturing involving forming, welding, machining, or related fabrication processes.
• 5+ years of quality assurance experience in areas such as document management or control, mechanical or weld inspection, nondestructive testing (NDT), auditing, and quality-system compliance.
• An associate or bachelors degree in engineering, science, quality, manufacturing, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
• Ability to use basic scheduling and planning tools to coordinate inspections, testing, and other quality activities.
• Proficiency with handheld inspection and measurement equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, steel rules, and tape measures.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction specifications, engineering drawings, and blueprints for fabrication, welding, machining, sheet metal, and piping.
• Working knowledge of quality documentation requirements and applicable AWS and ASME codes and standards.
• Familiarity with process and continuous-improvement methods, tools, and techniques.
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Ability to identify, investigate, and correct discrepancies in quality documentation and records.
• Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, correspondence, and other quality documentation.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work across engineering, project management, fabrication, inspection, and document control functions and represent ATG professionally.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, Lead Auditor certification, and NDE experience are preferred.

• Able to meet the roles physical demands, including regularly lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

• Lead quality engineering activities for assigned programs, setting priorities, deliverables, and team ownership.
• Direct, coach, and mentor Quality Engineers, inspectors, and cross-functional colleagues; review work for technical adequacy, consistency, and compliance.
• Develop and improve Quality Engineering processes and best practices to support growth, technical excellence, consistency, and quality objectives.
• Coordinate the Corrective Action Program, investigate and resolve quality issues, and promote continuous improvement.
• Serve as, or become qualified to serve as, a Lead Auditor and support internal, customer, supplier, and external certification audits.
• Create project-specific Quality Matrices that translate drawings, fabrication requirements, quality specifications, and customer requirements into inspection criteria.
• Develop and document project-specific procurement quality flow-down requirements.
• Create and review Inspection and Test Plans, coordinating with Project Engineers for technical support and clarification as needed.
• Review inspection records, test results, Travelers, and related quality documentation for conformance before customer submission.
• Coordinate with the company Certified Welding Inspector to maintain the welding program, including welder qualification and continuity records.
• Recommend and implement improvements to procedures, processes, and fabrication techniques to improve workflow, product quality, and operational effectiveness.
• Plan and ensure timely execution of destructive and nondestructive testing of materials, components, and products.
• Support the evaluation, resolution, and disposition of nonconforming materials and products.
• Help maintain inspection and testing personnel qualifications and certifications, identifying and communicating training or qualification gaps.
• Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of the inspection and measurement equipment calibration program.
• Develop and deliver training for effective Quality System implementation and ongoing compliance.
• Oversee a small team of Quality Engineers, assess skills and training needs, conduct performance appraisals, assist with talent identification and interviewing, and orient new employees.
• Communicate targets and expectations, foster motivation and accountability, coordinate resources across departments, and support continuous improvement and safety.
• Perform administrative and other duties as directed by the QA Manager.
