The Youth Care Professional III (YCP III) – Lead provides overnight supervision, care, and support to youth in a trauma-informed residential treatment environment. Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor, this role engages and mentors youth, supports direct care staff, and ensures compliance with Everstand, ORR, and state regulations.

The YCP III – Lead helps maintain a safe, structured, and healing-centered environment while overseeing overnight operations. Through professionalism, empathy, sound judgment, and strong boundaries, the Lead models positive behavior and promotes accountability across the assigned unit or campus.

Essential Functions

• Leadership & Supervision: Lead residential operations, ensure youth safety and supervision, support staff, maintain routines and staffing requirements, and provide on-call, campus, and shift coverage.
• Therapeutic Engagement: Build positive, youth-centered relationships; support treatment plans, programming, academics, life skills, conflict resolution, and healthy communication while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Documentation & Communication: Complete accurate shift, incident, medication, intake, and discharge documentation and maintain timely, professional, and confidential communication.
• Health & Safety: Administer medications when certified, transport youth as needed, respond to behavioral crises using trained interventions, and support medical, hospital, intake, and discharge needs.
• Environment & Daily Care: Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment; conduct required safety checks, searches, supervision, and resident belongings inventories.
• Compliance & Confidentiality: Follow HIPAA, state, federal, and organizational requirements, maintain confidentiality, and fulfill mandated reporting responsibilities.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma, GED, or AA required with a minimum of 3 years of working in a child welfare or educational environment. 

OR

• Bachelor’s degree in human service, education, or related field plus two years of experience working in a child welfare or educational environment. 

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience in behavioral health or trauma-informed settings strongly preferred

• Comfortable working in emotionally intense or unpredictable environments.
• Firsthand insight into the child welfare and human services landscape, gained through direct engagement as a family member, youth, or caregiver impacted by these systems; used to shape responsive, inclusive, and compliant programming.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass background checks (CPS, fingerprinting), drug screening, TB screening, and physical work-readiness.
• Must obtain and maintain certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), First Aid/CPR, and Medication Administration as required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain RCYCP certification -Maryland Only
• Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Office of Research and Regulations (ORR) Suitability Determination in accordance with position requirements.
• Obtain and maintain certification as a “user” in UC Portal database and Cx360 used for electronic health records.

Bilingual Differential:

• Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English or other relevant languages) may be eligible for a language differential based on program needs and demonstrated language proficiency.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The YCP III does not have formal direct supervisory responsibility over staff. However, this role serves in a lead and oversight capacity during assigned shifts and campus coverage. The YCP III acts as a role model and mentor to direct care personnel, provides real-time guidance, supports adherence to policies and procedures, and serves as an on-site point of contact for operational, safety, and youth-related decisions. On a rotating basis, the YCP III provides effective campus supervision at least once per week, which may include overnight and/or weekend shifts.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Schedule: 

• Wednesday 9:30pm-7:30am
• Thursday and Friday 10:30pm-7:30am
• Saturday: 7:30pm-7:30am
• This is a full-time, non-exempt position, Monday through Sunday (morning, evening, overnight), depending on program needs and assigned shifts; typically working between 33 and 40 hours a week.
  
• Employees must have the ability to work holidays, weekends, and inclement weather shifts as needed. Flexibility is required, and actual schedules are determined by the Unit Supervisor based on program coverage.
  
• Mileage reimbursement or agency vehicle provided for approved travel.
  
• This position is denoted as essential for emergencies and inclement weather notices.

Travel

Local travel for appointments or cross-site coverage may be required. 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

• Maintain required TCI certification and training.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Successfully complete required CPS/UII, federal, state, and fingerprint background checks.
• Pass required tuberculosis screening and work-readiness physical.
• Pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.
