Pharmacy Technician – Patient Access

LOCATION: Cary, NC | Onsite

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
• $22.50/hour contractor pay
• Monday–Friday; shift to be determined
• Contract position

ROLE IMPACT
Help patients overcome insurance, authorization, and financial barriers to specialty and biologic medications. This role coordinates benefits investigations, prior authorizations, financial assistance, and communication among patients, providers, and specialty pharmacies to support timely access to therapy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct benefits investigations and insurance coverage verification, including eligibility, deductibles, copays, specialty pharmacy requirements, step therapy, quantity limits, and reauthorization needs.
• Coordinate prior authorization (PA) documentation, communicate payer requirements to providers, track authorization status, and assist with appeals following coverage denials.
• Screen patients for copay assistance, foundation grants, and manufacturer-sponsored programs; assist with applications and monitor funding status.
• Communicate with patients, provider offices, and specialty pharmacies regarding therapy onboarding, prescriptions, missing documentation, authorization status, coverage delays, and next steps.
• Maintain accurate progress notes and documentation while meeting turnaround time, quality audit, productivity, and call-handling expectations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience or demonstrated knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits verification, prior authorization, patient access, or specialty pharmacy workflows.
• Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, healthcare providers, pharmacies, payers, and internal teams.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate documentation, manage multiple cases, and meet productivity and quality expectations.
