Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Regular Full-Time Buffalo, NY, US 4 days ago Requisition ID: 1476 Salary Range: $60,450.00 To $64,350.00 Annually Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Job Description: VIA Visually Impaired Advancement is seeking a full time Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to work 37.5 hours per week. This position is responsible for the provision of vision services to children from birth – 21 in a variety of settings. Essential Functions: Provide vision services in preschool, school-based and community setting according to the child’s IFSP/IEP Teach/assist students with appropriate self-care skills with the intention of working towards student independence and self-sufficiency Review and assist with the development of the IFSP/IEP to identify status, needs and establish goals Maintain confidential, written documentation and records of student performance Actively participate in student centered meetings and ensure all paperwork is completed and filed within standard timeframes Develop lesson activities, regular print, large print, Braille, computer programs or other materials to instruct students in accordance to their goals Offer input into classroom operations regarding activities, disciplinary procedures, class routine, safety procedures and other functions, when appropriate Provide teachers, parents, therapists and aides with information and assistance with all safe travel techniques provided by O&M instructor Assess children using standardized and non-standardized tools. Make recommendations for appropriate program options Availability to provide support and assistance to families as needed Complete and submission of all documentation in accordance with department and contractual guidelines Participate in team, department and agency staff meetings as directed by Manager Maintain calendar accounting for whereabouts and work activities Participate in professional development opportunities Maintain open and effective communication with colleagues, managers, and leadership Proficient computer skills – Internet based systems, MS Outlook, Word and Excel including the use of peripherals and age appropriate programs and adaptive equipment Organized, energetic, flexible, patient and detail-oriented Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines Exceptional interpersonal communication, presentation and writing abilities Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service Caring and counseling skills with an ability to balance agency policy with the individual perceptions and sensitivity of clients Ability to work with a diverse population Qualifications: New York State TVI Certification Minimum one year experience in Early Education preferred NYS driver's license and reliable transportation OR the ability to travel effectively within assigned geographic area, including the ability to transport equipment VIA is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and as such affirms the right of every person to participate in all aspects of employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic.
