Registered Nurse II - Peds Heart Center The Pediatric Heart Center is a 29‑bed unit ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report and award‑winning with the AACN Beacon Award. It serves as the referral center for all major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina, caring for patients with congenital and acute heart disease of all ages. The unit provides cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices, heart transplant, cardiac catheterization, and complex supportive therapies including ECMO/CRRT and pediatric palliative care. Staff includes registered nurses, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists. Job Summary Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at a competent level using the nursing process. The role includes delivering safe and effective care, collaborating with the healthcare team, and ensuring desired patient outcomes. Responsibilities Deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in the heart center. Monitor patients’ clinical status and report changes to the medical team. Administer medications and therapies per established protocols. Assist with procedures such as cardiac catheterization and wound care. Utilize and troubleshoot equipment including ECMO, CRRT, and mechanical support devices. Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately. Educate patients’ families regarding disease process, care plan, and discharge instructions. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred (RN with Associate or Diploma must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain the degree within four years). Minimum one year of registered nursing experience. Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Ability to stand, sit, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform other physical tasks required for patient care. Benefits Up to $30,000 sign‑on bonus with a 3‑year service agreement for external candidates with at least 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
