Responsibilities Collect samples and conduct field tests on regulated food commodities and substances such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, beverages, and pharmaceuticals. Identify abnormalities and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with the Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts. Develop written reports and present findings orally to stakeholders. Maintain effective contacts with internal and external parties regarding food safety standards. Inspect meat, poultry, and egg products and verify plant HACCP and SSOP responsibilities. Apply basic mathematics and elementary statistical concepts for testing and sampling procedures. Perform hazardous workplace procedures as part of a Consumer Safety Inspector. Qualifications At least 52 weeks of specialized experience (GS‑05 level) or equivalent (GS‑07, GS‑08, GS‑09) in roles such as consumer safety inspector, food inspector, or related positions. Experience includes knowledge of regulated food commodities and substances, sample collection, field testing, and reporting. Knowledge of Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts, SSOP and HACCP principles. Ability to work independently on routine, standard assignments on a regular basis. Experience with voluntary service (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) may be credited toward qualifications. Benefits $5,000 Sign‑On Bonus for newly appointed employees.
