The Research Technician I is responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries

The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) Laboratory Program is part of an international collaboration of scientists and educators searching for an effective and safe HIV vaccine. The HVTN's mission is to develop preventive HIV vaccines. The organization conducts all phases of clinical trials from evaluating experimental vaccines for safety and the ability to stimulate immune responses to testing vaccine efficacy. We are recruiting an individual to lead the Site Affiliated Laboratory (SAL) processing group.

Responsibilities

Process blood and other biological specimens using established sterile and aseptic laboratory techniques and standard operating procedures.
• Perform routine sample processing procedures, including isolation and cryopreservation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), preparation and aliquoting of serum and plasma, and preparation of specimens for downstream laboratory testing.
• Receive, inventory, label, and prepare biological specimens for storage and shipment in accordance with established laboratory procedures and applicable shipping regulations.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines, including data entry into laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
• Coordinate with laboratory and clinical staff regarding specimen collection schedules and processing needs to ensure timely handling of study samples.
• Operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, microscopes, automated cell counters, ultra-low temperature freezers, and biological safety cabinets, reporting equipment issues as needed.
• Assist with monitoring laboratory supply inventory and preparing reagents, buffers, and other materials required for daily laboratory operations.
• Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality assurance requirements, and laboratory safety practices.
• Assist with the organization and maintenance of laboratory documentation, study materials, and protocol-related records.
• Participate in laboratory quality control activities and report discrepancies or concerns to laboratory leadership.
• Assist in preparing laboratory materials and workspaces to support ongoing research studies and clinical trials.
• Participate in required training activities and maintain proficiency in assigned laboratory procedures and techniques.
• Support general laboratory operations and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor's degree in the biological sciences

• Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study

• Demonstrated basic laboratory skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years laboratory bench research experience.
• Experience with performance of clinical assays.
• Shows initiative, the willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and is a team player.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Good communication and organizational skills.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.33 to $33.21 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
