Controls Technician

The Controls Technician supports a large capacity expansion project by building, installing, and commissioning new process equipment and control systems. This role focuses on bringing new equipment online, including pneumatics, steam control, and PLC-based systems, while replicating and integrating existing multi-story systems at the facility. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with a growing team that is expanding capabilities across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble new process equipment, including multi-story processing units, in support of a large capacity expansion project.
• Bring new equipment online by installing, configuring, and integrating pneumatics, steam control systems, and PLC-based controls.
• Run electrical conduit, including operating a threader, bending EMT, and installing PVC conduit for new and existing systems.
• Pull electrical wires and terminate connections in electrical cabinets and panels according to schematics and blueprints.
• Install and modify power distribution systems and power panels to support new equipment and expanded capacity.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, pneumatics, and electrical systems to diagnose issues and restore equipment to proper operation.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and other technical documentation to guide installation and troubleshooting activities.
• Collaborate daily with facility support staff and electricians to coordinate work, resolve issues, and ensure safe, efficient project execution.
• Replicate and standardize existing control and process systems across multi-story installations to ensure consistent performance and reliability.
• Travel to an additional facility after the initial on-site period to support equipment installation, start-up, and troubleshooting as needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience with PLC troubleshooting and pneumatic transfer systems.
• At least 2 years of experience installing and working with electrical conduit, including running a threader, bending EMT, and installing PVC conduit.
• At least 2 years of experience with power distribution systems and power panels.
• Hands-on experience with troubleshooting electrical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Experience running electrical conduit, pulling wires, and terminating electrical cabinets and panels.
• Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting within automation environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and repair control system issues.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a technical team and coordinate with facility support and electricians.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a related technical field is preferred.
• Experience working in a regulated industry such as FDA or cGMP environments is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with multi-story process equipment installations is advantageous.
• Willingness and ability to travel to another facility after the initial on-site period.

Work Environment

The Controls Technician works within a team of approximately 17 people, collaborating closely day-to-day with a core group of 5–6 colleagues, including facility support staff and electricians. The role is based initially at one primary site for approximately 6–8 months, focusing on a large capacity expansion project involving multi-story process systems. After this period, the position requires travel to an additional facility to support similar installation and commissioning activities. The environment is highly collaborative and project-focused, with an emphasis on automation, electrical systems, pneumatics, and power distribution in a growing operation that is expanding capacity across both sites.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Verona, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $36.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
