Probation Compliance Officer - Misdemeanor Courts

$21.16 - $31.74 per hour

Job Description PURPOSE SUMMARY. Monitor offenders convicted of misdemeanors for compliance of their court-ordered sanctions. Must be willing to provide support and guidance to offenders to meet department's mission and philosophy statements and to reduce recidivism of DWI, Domestic Violence and other misdemeanor offenses. ESSENTIAL DUTIES. 1. Monitoring Monitor and/or track misdemeanor offenders on supervised probation to ensure compliance with the court-ordered Judgment and Sentence and the programs goals and objectives. Communicate with offenders through phone calls, virtual or in person meetings, and written correspondence. Notify the courts of non-compliance by preparing and submitting probation violation or revocation reports to the District Attorney's Office. Collaborate with District, Magistrate and Municipal judges and specialty courts within Doña Ana County to monitor and track offender compliance. Serve as a liaison between the courts and misdemeanor offenders: appear in court to provide testimony and recommendations as required. Work closely with District Attorney's Office by assisting with probation violation and revocation hearings, motion hearings, and related proceedings. Provide testimony, evidentiary documentation, and recommendations as needed. Maintain accurate documentation through paper files and electronic records. Verify and enter offender's information and progress notes into the required databases including the statewide client tracking system in accordance with the State of New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration, Local DWI Division. Generate reports to support data accuracy, and caseload management. Set up electronic devices for misdemeanor offenders and ensure proper use related tracking and compliance monitoring. Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and other program related documents using approved templates. Develop new templates as needed, subject to department management approval. 2. Support Provide referrals and disseminate information to offenders regarding agencies and resources that support successful completion of court-ordered programs. Monitor payment of required court fees, probation fees, donations, restitution, and other financial obligations outlined in the Judgment and Sentence. Administer and review the state-approved and mandated screening assessments completed by offenders and make appropriate recommendations for additional evaluation and treatment services as needed. Coordinate with substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health providers or other service providers to ensure timely access to required or recommended services. This may include outpatient or inpatient treatment programs, Drug Court, Batterer's Intervention Program, anger management classes, mental health counseling, medically assisted treatment, and other support services. Assist with case management when needs are identified during the offender's supervised probation period. Provide referrals to agencies offering employment assistance, job readiness training, SNAP and Medicaid benefits, parenting classes, housing assistance, financial assistance programs (SSI, TANF, etc.) and other supportive resources. Protect offenders' confidential information and adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and departmental policies governing the handling of private information. Assist misdemeanor offenders by providing general information about court processes they may encounter during their probation including status hearings, resolving bench warrants, motion hearings, and related matters. Conduct community presentations to promote awareness and education; may represent the division in public meetings or events as requested by department management. Participate in staff meetings, required training, and special events as directed by department management. ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS. A. Education. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or Criminology, Family and Consumer Science, Counseling, Law Enforcement Studies, or related field. B. Experience. Two (2) years of case management experience in a supervised probation position law enforcement environment, or similar justice related role is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required. C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy. D. Licenses/Certifications. Valid driver's license. Must maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with County policy. No DWI conviction within three years of application and must not be convicted of such while employed in the Court Compliance/LDWI program. E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Must pass pre-employment background check and driving record check. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of : Court procedures, prevention practices and methods. Applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Current literature, and trends. Skill in : Operating a computer using software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access). Maintaining accurate records. Develop spreadsheets. Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with others. Ability to : Work independently. Develop collaborative partnerships. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports. Adhere to strict deadlines and schedules. Maintain confidentiality. Compensation Range $21.16 - $31.74 Doña Ana County is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
