Position Summary Expert in the use/handling/storing/securing of radiation sources and in the Q/A of machines used in the treatment of cancer patients. Collaborate with physicians and department leaders to assess the technology needs of the department, and commission new technology. Perform required quality checks of treatment plans and create plans to assure that plans meet the requirements of the physician prescription. Maintain department records and perform gap analysis to be assured that department is meeting ACR accreditation standards. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job • Provides routine education and training of hospital personnel, physicians, radiation oncology residents, medical physics students, and radiation therapy students to maintain a high level of professionalism and safety. • Creates and/or performs Q/A of patient treatment plans. • Ensures plans conform to physician prescription, and critical structures are spared from radiation exposure. • Follows documentation and billing standard work. • Performs quality assurance checks (daily, monthly, yearly) on department technology as required by State and Federal regulations, and prepares required reports. • Reviews calibration data for the Linear Accelerators and HDR on appropriate basis as outlined by AAPM. • Performs accurate measurements in machine x-ray beam dosimetry and calibration checks to ensure quality assurance and comply with AAPM/ASTR protocol, Title 17 and Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals. • Provides coverage for the HDR, IORT, SRS and SBRT procedures to comply with the department protocol. • Cooperates with current billing practices to ensure timely and accurate billing of all procedures. • Performs accurate measurements in machine x-ray beam dosimetry and calibration checks to ensure quality assurance. • Complies with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (AAPM/ASTRO) protocol, Title 17 and Joint Commission standards. • Performs other duties as assigned. *Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Qualifications/Work Experience: • Minimum 2 years' clinical radiation therapy physics preferred. Education/Licensure/Certification: • Ph.D. or Master's degree in medical physics or related field required. • Board certified or board eligible therapeutic medical physicist by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) required. • Current California Therapeutic Calibration Physicist and California RAML Authorized Medical Physicist approval or obtained within 2 years' of hire required.
