Police Supervisor I (Sergeant) – 3550 We are seeking a Police Supervisor (Sergeant) to serve in a first‑line supervisory role within the UNC Pembroke Police & Public Safety Department. The position includes leadership of a patrol unit or investigative team, enforcement of state and university policies, and coordination with campus partners. Position Details Division: Finance and Administration Department: Police & Public Safety Working Title: Sergeant – 3550 Vacancy Type: Exempt Professional Staff (EPS) FTE: 1 Recruitment Range: Commensurate Upon Education and Experience Position #: 3550 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Primary Purpose The primary purpose of this position is to perform first‑line supervisory law enforcement work on campus, enforcing state and federal law while overseeing a unit of officers or investigative staff. Responsibilities include supervising shift operations, conducting training, reviewing investigations, and serving as incident commander when required. Responsibilities Supervise general patrol duties and traffic management for assigned unit or squad. Direct day‑to‑day operations, ensuring appropriate staffing for daily activities and special events. Assign personnel, coordinate officer activity, and conduct pre‑shift briefings. Review all reports and investigations completed during a shift, approving documentation such as rosters, time reporting, incident reports, and maintenance logs. Conduct orientation and training, inspections of officers, and performance reviews. Administer discipline and provide input on operational planning. Serve as incident commander for incidents and events when assigned or in the absence of a higher ranking officer. Maintain compliance with departmental and university policies and procedures. Coordinate security resources and communicate with local law enforcement, emergency agencies, and campus partners. Participate in community policing functions, deliver crime‑prevention programs, and provide assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Engage in general law enforcement duties during routine and special events, responding to calls, making arrests, issuing citations, investigating accidents, and providing first responder care. Attend and complete all mandated training courses, including N.C. Basic Law Enforcement Training and a current NC driver’s license. Perform other duties as assigned, including mandatory duties during adverse weather or emergency events. Qualifications Minimum of an associate degree (or 60 college credit hours) and four (4) years of sworn law‑enforcement experience. Current certification as a commissioned police officer under NC CJETSC or eligibility for certification within an agency‑specified timeframe. Valid, current NC Driver’s License. N.C. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification. Preferred certifications: field training officer, first‑line supervisor, and crisis intervention. Experience in a higher‑education law‑enforcement setting.
