Medical Oncologist

Physician Hematologist / Medical Oncologist – Kalamazoo, Michigan

Bronson Healthcare is looking for a Board‑Certified/Board‑Eligible medical oncologist/hematologist to join our high‑performing cancer team at the Bronson Cancer Center – a new facility that opened in January 2021 on the campus of Bronson Methodist Hospital in downtown Kalamazoo.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose illnesses and prescribe and administer appropriate treatments for patients suffering from disease or illness.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests; counsel patients regarding preventive healthcare, hygiene, and diet.
• Interview, examine, and treat clinical patients to meet their medical needs.
• Educate patients and families on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources.
• Determine required referrals and coordinate follow‑up appointments, including assessment of urgency.
• Exercise final medical judgment in all issues of health care, including prescribing medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
• Order studies, tests, and ancillary services, and document all services in the patient medical record.
• Review long‑term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
• Consult with the Medical Director and other professionals on staff as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
• Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient‑care programs established by the hospital or clinic requirements.
• Oversee mid‑level medical staff and nursing clinical staff as assigned.
• Assist in the resolution of complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.

Qualifications

• BC/BE fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology.
• Current unrestricted or pending medical license in the state of Michigan.
• Current DEA and DPS certificates of registration.
• Medical degree with a minimum of 2 years of direct patient care or internship experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of professional medical principles, procedures, pharmacological agents, and the ability to apply them to patient care.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proper telephone etiquette.
• Commitment to providing compassionate, quality patient‑centered care.
• Hospital‑employed outpatient position with scheduled weekly hours of 40, Monday‑Friday 8am‑5pm.
• Shared on‑call duties with the oncology team.
