Job Title: Selective Soldering Machine Operator / Technician
Job Description

The Selective Soldering Machine Operator / Technician operates, sets up, and maintains selective soldering equipment to support printed circuit board (PCB) assembly in a regulated electronics manufacturing environment. This role ensures consistent solder quality, adheres to safety and quality standards, and contributes to efficient, high‑volume production.

Responsibilities

• Operate selective soldering machines, such as ERSA, SeHO, Pillarhouse, or similar equipment, to support PCB assembly operations.
• Perform machine setup, changeovers, and basic programming adjustments in accordance with work instructions and process documentation.
• Load and unload PCBs, ensuring proper fixturing, alignment, and adherence to defined solder parameters.
• Monitor solder quality, including wetting, hole fill, solder bridges, and other potential defects, and take corrective action as needed.
• Conduct first article inspections and in‑process quality checks to verify conformance with quality standards.
• Troubleshoot soldering issues and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve process or equipment problems.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance on selective soldering machines, including cleaning solder pots and replacing consumables.
• Accurately document production data, inspection results, and defects in accordance with established procedures.
• Follow ESD, safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures at all times while working on the production floor.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S activities, to enhance efficiency, quality, and workplace organization.
• Apply strong attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset to all aspects of the soldering process.
• Work independently to complete assigned tasks while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, engineers, and team members regarding production status, issues, and improvement ideas.

Essential Skills

• 1–3 years of experience operating selective soldering equipment in an electronics manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on experience with SMT soldering and SMT assembly processes.
• Experience in electronics manufacturing and PCB manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in operating production machinery, including SMT and wave solder machines.
• Knowledge of through‑hole soldering processes, solder alloys, and flux systems.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and process documentation accurately.
• Familiarity with IPC quality standards such as IPC‑A‑610 or similar.
• Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated focus on product quality.
• Mechanical aptitude with solid problem‑solving skills for equipment and process issues.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet production goals.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with production, engineering, and quality personnel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• IPC certification, such as IPC‑A‑610 or J‑STD‑001.
• Technical or vocational training in electronics or manufacturing.
• Experience with process troubleshooting and solder process optimization.
• Familiarity with ESD, safety, environmental, and quality policies in a manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with selective soldering machines including ERSA, SeHO, Pillarhouse, or similar platforms.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate‑controlled, organized electronics manufacturing facility. The position operates primarily on a 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. shift, working with selective soldering, SMT, and related PCB manufacturing equipment. The environment emphasizes adherence to ESD, safety, environmental, and quality standards, with a clean and structured production floor that supports efficient and precise work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tempe, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.
