Director of Accounting

Job Title: Assistant Controller / Director of Accounting (title flexible for the right candidate)

Location: Northern Virginia (Hybrid)

Compensation: $175K to $240K base plus equity, with a strong benefits package

The Opportunity

Synergy Search is conducting a confidential search for an Assistant Controller / Director of Accounting on behalf of a venture backed technology company that is scaling fast. This is a newly created role with controller level ownership: you will run the global close and consolidation and rebuild the processes behind them as the company grows.

What You Will Own

• Own the global month end close across a multi entity, multi country structure

• Rebuild and streamline the close process to deliver an accurate, on time close

• Clean up and run intercompany accounting and consolidations

• Lead and develop regional accounting managers and staff across time zones

• Stay hands on in the ERP: post entries, reconcile, and fix issues at the source

• Strengthen systems, controls, and workflows to support the next stage of scale

• Partner with accounting leadership, FP&A, and operations on reporting and audit readiness

What You Need

• Direct ownership of the close and consolidations across multiple entities

• Close ownership at a company with at minimum $100M+ in revenue

• Hands on operator who works directly in the systems, not just a reviewer

• Proven process improver with at least one of the following: process design, a systems implementation, or a close or consolidation cleanup

• Thrives in a fast paced, constantly evolving, tech forward environment

What Sets You Apart

• 8 to 15+ years of progressive accounting experience

• Public accounting foundation followed by industry experience

• Exposure to inventory and COGS from manufacturing, distribution, or a product company

• Government contracting experience / SaaS / Technology / Manufacturing industries.

• IFRS or international accounting experience is a plus.

• Experience managing global or distributed teams

• Background at a high growth or venture backed company

• CPA

• Hybrid schedule, primarily in office, near public transit

• Roughly quarterly international travel
