*Job Summary*

Sunesis Construction is seeking an experienced *Heavy Civil Construction Estimator* with a strong background in Construction and Estimating. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates for DOT, municipal, and private projects and collaborating closely with project managers, superintendents, and leadership throughout the pursuit process.

You will play a critical role in bid strategy, risk identification, subcontractor coordination, and setting projects up for successful execution.

*Key Responsibilities*

* Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects using HeavyBid
* Review plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements (DOT, municipal, agency standards)
* Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
* Solicit, review, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier pricing
* Develop bid strategies in collaboration with project management and leadership
* Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and cost‑saving opportunities during the estimating phase
* Assist with bid day activities, final pricing reviews, and proposal submissions
* Support project teams with budget updates, change pricing, and cost control as needed after award
* Ensure estimates comply with contract requirements, safety standards, and company best practices

*Qualifications & Experience*

* 5+ years of experience estimating heavy civil or infrastructure construction projects
* Strong experience with public sector work (DOT, municipal, county, or agency projects)
* Solid understanding of construction means and methods, contracts, and cost control
* Proficiency with HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar estimating systems
* Ability to evaluate subcontractor pricing and negotiate favorable terms
* Understanding of field operations and how estimates translate into execution
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
