The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.Description of WorkRecruitment Range: $55,221 - $66,837This posting is for the following two positions: 60011335 & 60011352.You only need to apply once to be considered for both positions.IMPORTANT NOTE: This posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night BEFORE the End Date listed.These positions are currently located at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC, assigned to the Training Division, and are responsible for researching, developing, and creating law enforcement related materials.These positions will be responsible for content development, lesson plan revision and curriculum maintenance. There may also be instructional duties or teaching assignments. These positions may be cross trained for multiple disciplines or topical areas. Candidates may be required, based on operational needs, to obtain and maintain additional Commission instructor certifications beyond the primary discipline. The Academy supports cross certification to enhance instructional capability and program delivery.These positions will be assigned to one of four instruction work teams and will be required to perform a portion of the preceding organizational duties, including coordinating – and instructing in – basic, advanced, and specialized criminal justice training curricula using an Instructional System Design model of analysis, design, development, delivery, and evaluation phases, which may consist of creating both traditional and e-learning courses that may include annual in-service training, or other training as assigned.In addition, these positions will also be responsible for providing technical assistance in assigned content areas upon request from criminal justice personnel regarding operational policies and procedures and developing advanced and specialized criminal justice training materials that will include curricula, hypermedia, and other audiovisual materials.These positions may/will additionally be responsible for providing training or acting as supplemental trainers for other subject areas offered by the North Carolina Justice Academy, including but not limited to Academy-based courses, Commission-mandated courses and Mandatory In-service Training Courses.These positions ensure that the appearance, organization and functionality of e-learning meet North Carolina Department of Justice standards. These positions are also responsible for reviewing, proofreading and editing new and existing lesson plans as part of the development and content process.Some travel, including some occasional overnight stays are requiredThe selected candidate is subject to a background investigation.The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville, NC and Salemburg, NC) provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including anti-terrorism, community-oriented policing, criminal investigation, traffic crash investigation, firearms, self-defense, and management and supervision. Additionally, the Academy provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for Detention Officers and Telecommunicators on behalf of the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesCertified as a General Instructor by the NCCJETSC.Experience developing lesson plans for criminal justice/law enforcement training or other discipline.Experience teaching in the criminal justice and/or law enforcement field.Minimum Education and ExperienceSome state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
