Responsibilities Participate in the receipt and release of bodies, ensuring identification accuracy and the secure logging of personal effects. Organise and partake in viewings and formal identifications in coordination with bereavement counsellors or family liaison officers. Coordinate post mortem arrangements through liaison with the Coroners’ Office, pathologists, or Home Office. Expertly assist with post mortem examinations, including organ removal, weighing, and specialised techniques. Uphold stringent health and safety measures, particularly with cases involving infections or decomposed bodies. Collect and prepare specimens for pathological analysis, ensuring meticulous accuracy in labelling. Reconstruct bodies after trauma or examination, ensuring dignity is maintained at all times. Facilitate the deactivation or removal of pacemakers, and assist in requisite x-ray procedures. Promote safe work practices for visitors and maintain pristine mortuary conditions. Engage in out-of-hours servicing and cover for staff shortages across different sites. To thrive in this role, HCPC registration is essential.
