Our organization is seeking a Pathologist to join the Head and Neck Pathology Center of Excellence (COE) within the Division of Anatomic Pathology. This role is part of the academic clinical track and requires the candidate to possess specialized training and a keen academic interest in Head and Neck Surgical Pathology.

Key Highlights

• The Head and Neck Pathology COE is comprised of four dedicated pathologists, recognized for their expertise in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions affecting the head and neck. Annually, this center processes over 3,500 cases and serves as a consultation reference laboratory at local, regional, and national levels, including telepathology services.
• Strong collaborations exist between the Head and Neck Pathology COE and the Surgical and Medical Oncology teams. The University of Pittsburgh's Head and Neck Team has a proven track record of securing federal and industry funding, consistently recognized as a SPORE (Specialized Program Of Research Excellence) program, which is a prestigious designation supported by the NIH.
• Engagement with the multidisciplinary head and neck research team, particularly in relation to programmatic grants, is anticipated.
• The COE offers a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Head and Neck Pathology.
• This position is located at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospitals, which primarily provides diagnostic support to the Hillman Cancer Center.
• The Department of Pathology at our organization boasts a robust infrastructure in Molecular, Digital, and Computational Pathology, with ongoing investments in Digital Pathology and AI applications.
• Candidates will have significant oversight and involvement in translational pathology, utilizing shared resources from our Imaging and Digital Pathology Laboratories, as well as Molecular Anatomic Pathology and FISH laboratories.
• Guaranteed protected time will be allocated for the successful candidate.
• The selected individual will be expected to lead and guide the development of diagnostic and research initiatives, leveraging available resources effectively.
• Collaboration with the Head and Neck COE Director will be essential regarding service roles and the operational functions of the Head and Neck Pathology service.
• Participation in various COE-specific meetings at UPMC/Hillman Cancer Center is required.
• The candidate will represent the department on both national and international platforms.
• Mentoring and teaching responsibilities for Head and Neck Pathology fellows and residents will be part of the role.
• Signing out surgical pathology cases as needed is expected.
• Involvement in research initiatives will also be required as necessary.
• Alignment with and contribution to the mission and goals of the department is essential.

Qualifications:

• A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree is required, along with board certification in Anatomic Pathology and specialized training in thoracic pathology.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is mandatory.
• A strong commitment to scholarly activities and a solid record of publications are essential.

Salary and Benefits:

• Compensation will be based on experience.
• This role is a full-time faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh and includes participation in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
