Mold Maker I, II or III (Evenings 2pm to 10:30pm) Full Time, Victor, NY, US Location: Onsite at LSI Solutions in Victor, NY Shift Hours: Monday to Friday (Evenings 2pm to 10:30pm) Hourly Pay Range: $32.00/hour to $45.00/hour plus an additional $2.00 per hour Evening Shift Differential Job Summary The Mold Maker is responsible for the fabrication of new plastic injection molds, mold modifications, repairs, and the machining of mold components to produce products that meet specifications. Responsibilities include working from CAD models and related documentation to program and operate CNC equipment for complex mold components, promoting a safe and continuous improvement work environment, and contributing to the organization’s goals. Essential Functions (Level I – III) Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow safety procedures and PPE requirements. Read and understand part drawings and GD&T. Perform and document preventative maintenance on machines and molds. Accurately use measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, scales). Operate manual machines such as mills, cutoff saw, surface grinder, wet grinder. Set‑up machines, load programs, and operate independently with little supervision. Review complex drawings and GD&T. Build new plastic injection molds and perform mold modifications and repairs. Operate precision CNC equipment and program complex tool paths using MasterCam. Identify and troubleshoot tooling, equipment, and process issues. Train and cross‑train employees as needed. Collaborate with Engineers and Tool Designers to provide manufacturing input on molds. Use CAD/CAM (MasterCAM, PowerMill, Esprit) independently to program, set‑up, run parts, inspect, and adjust. Support rapid prototyping and urgent requests for Discovery and Engineering. Write and implement macros; train junior machinists or apprentices. Education & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required. Level I: Minimum 2 years’ injection mold making experience. Level II: Minimum 4+ years’ experience; CAD/CAM experience with MasterCAM, PowerMill, and Esprit preferred; experience with machining hardened steel and close tolerances preferred. Level III: Minimum 10+ years’ experience; advanced programming experience required; Partmaker/Esprit and high‑feed machining preference; trade school or NYS certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of shop math (trigonometry, geometry); ability to read blueprints and work instructions. Proficiency in standard inspection equipment. Programming using MasterCAM and/or PowerMill; tolerance handling to +/-0.0001”. Understanding of tooling geometry and coatings for hardened materials; willingness to adopt new manufacturing technologies. Strong focus and organizational skills in a fluid environment; understanding of medical device manufacturing preferred. Physical Demands & Work Environment Reloading, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling from 20‑40 lbs. Periodic climbing and use of color vision/depth perception. Sitting, standing or walking for up to eight hours per day.
