1st Shift General Laborer

Eastern Staffing & Recruiting is seeking a reliable and safety-focused 1st Shift General Laborer to join our client's team in Owego, NY. This position is responsible for supporting the galvanizing process through proper material handling, racking, unracking, surface cleaning, inspection, and packaging of steel materials in accordance with quality and safety standards. Ideal candidates will have a strong attention to detail, commitment to workplace safety, and the ability to follow established procedures and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Remove galvanized steel from racks and inspect surfaces for imperfections.
• Perform surface cleaning of black spots, drips, and wire markings using hand files, grinders, touch-up paint, and galvanizing bars.
• Inspect hand-held equipment for safety, report disrepair to the foreman.
• Package acceptable product according to job requirements.
• Maintain a clean work area, including sweeping floors between racks.
• Hang incoming steel material to be galvanized according to proper design and ventilation requirements.
• Correct surface or design issues as directed (torch cutting, paint removal, grinding markings) per management or quality deficiency tag instructions.
• Provide forklift safety support during racking and unracking/cleaning operations.
• Safely load and unload customer materials.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to inspect and identify surface imperfections and material damage.
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Crane operator certification preferred.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, grinders, torches (by designated personnel only with supervisor approval), and other equipment as required.
• Strong attention to safety protocols and ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Ability to follow instructions from Foreman or Shift Supervisor.
