Job Description

The Equipment Technician plays a key role in supporting equipment and production engineers with the overall maintenance of tools used in a wafer production division. This position focuses on equipment repair, preventive maintenance, and services that ensure production and quality standards are met in a cost-efficient manner. The role also supports facility and environmental health and safety (EHS) teams with cleanroom operations, utilities, and chemical handling, and contributes to the installation, upgrade, and construction of new and custom production tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist equipment and production engineers with the installation of new equipment and the upgrade of existing tools in the wafer production environment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on assigned production tools to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance.
• Conduct routine checks of tool performance in service corridors, monitoring for error messages, warning signs, and out-of-range readings, and promptly report any issues.
• Support the facility team in maintaining cleanroom conditions, including monitoring DI water systems, nitrogen gas supply, and routine checks of cylinder gas levels.
• Assist EHS personnel with the safe handling, treatment, and management of waste chemicals, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
• Support materials control by stocking and managing acid and solvent chemicals, and maintaining accurate inventory and storage practices.
• Help equipment engineers build or upgrade homemade production tools using available parts and components sourced from existing inventory or the market.
• Perform general mechanical and electrical assembly tasks, including using hand and power tools to assemble, adjust, and repair equipment and components.
• Work with pumps, chillers, filters, and cooling water systems to support equipment operation and facility infrastructure.
• Use microscopes and inspection techniques to evaluate electronic components, assemblies, and tools for quality and functionality.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to support equipment installation, assembly, and repair activities.
• Perform electronics repair and assembly tasks, including PCB work, soldering, and electrical wiring as needed for tool maintenance and upgrades.
• Assist with cleanroom EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) production activities, supporting assembly line operations and mechanical assembly tasks.
• Follow established safety procedures and EHS guidelines when working with chemicals, waste bottles, drums, and other potential hazards.
• Collaborate with engineers, facility staff, and materials control to ensure equipment, utilities, and supplies support continuous and efficient production.

Essential Skills

• Associate degree in a technical discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with electrical, chemical, and mechanical systems in a lab or production fabrication environment.
• Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of production equipment and tools.
• Ability to work with pumps, chillers, filters, and cooling water systems in support of equipment operation.
• Experience working in cleanroom or electronic manufacturing services environments.
• Capability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electrical assembly tasks.
• Basic skills in electrical wiring and soldering for electronics repair and assembly.
• Comfort working around moving machinery, vehicles, and electrical equipment while following safety procedures.
• Ability to perform routine inspections, monitor equipment readings, and accurately report issues.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to quality and safety standards in a production setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with pump, chiller, cooling water filter, and gas bottle change services is a plus.
• Experience handling and working safely with chemical and waste bottles and drums is preferred.
• Basic machine shop skills such as drilling, cutting, polishing, and blasting are desired.
• Ability to perform basic plumbing tasks is an advantage.
• Experience with electronics, chips, PCBs, soldering, and electronics assembly is beneficial.
• Experience in biomedical, chemical, or mechanical maintenance environments is helpful.
• Experience using microscopes for inspection and quality control in electronics or cleanroom settings.
• Comfort with general labor tasks related to assembly lines, mechanical assembly, and inspection.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, facility staff, EHS, and materials control teams.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a regular schedule from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work takes place in a cleanroom EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) setting and surrounding production areas. The role involves frequent exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and odors, and requires working around moving machinery, vehicles, and electrical equipment. Employees may encounter extreme heat and elevated work areas and will have potential exposure to chemicals and other workplace hazards, with appropriate safety procedures and protective equipment in place. The environment is highly technical and process-driven, focused on precision manufacturing and strict adherence to cleanroom and safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sugar Land, TX.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
