Rebuild Technician

Job Summary Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce, repair, and test precision parts and instruments. This includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. Responsibilities also involve fabricating and modifyingparts to maintain mixheads and other spare parts, ensuring continuous production of products consistent with established standards. Essential Functions Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required. Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures. Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required. Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary. Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required. Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve or investigate and adjust customer complaints. Measure, examine, and test units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards. Verify specified dimensions of products or materials. Reject defective parts and mark the type of defect on parts, containers, or inspection tags. Test products for structural defects such as leaks and internal cracks. Test mechanisms for clearance and freedom of movement. Position workpieces on surface plates and lay out reference points and center lines on parts. Inspect, adjust, and verify the accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments for conformance to specifications. Examine defective parts to determine the cause of defects and recommend changes or modifications. Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Test the functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions such as temperature change, vibration, pressure, and humidity. Calibrate test instruments according to specifications. Connect units to be tested to test equipment such as signal generators, frequency meters, or spectrum analyzers (IRD). Analyze test results on defective units to determine the cause of failure. Required Education and Experience Knowledge of industrial machines. Applied knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Hands-on experience or apprenticeship. High School diploma or equivalent. Troubleshooting skills. Physical Demands Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Regularly required to talk and hear. Required to stand for periods of time. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
