Lead Custodian – Middle SchoolThe Lead Custodian is responsible for overseeing the daily custodial operations of the assigned school. This position ensures the building is clean, safe, and properly maintained while providing direction and support to custodial staff. The Lead Custodian serves as the primary contact for building-level custodial and basic maintenance needs.Essential Job Functions:Assign and monitor daily work of custodial staff to ensure completion and quality of tasksOversee and participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school building and surrounding grounds, including but not limited to dusting, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing/waxing floors, mowing and trimming grass, and snow removal as neededRespond to immediate custodial needs such as spills, accidents, and weather-related issuesPromote a positive and cooperative working environment among custodial staffFollow all District policies, procedures, and safety regulationsPerform custodial duties in accordance with District standardsCommunicate effectively with administration, staff, and outside vendors regarding building needsMonitor building systems (heating, ventilation, lighting, etc.) and report concerns to the appropriate departmentPerform minor maintenance and repairs as needed, including but not limited to replacing lamps, wall-mounted fixtures, and minor furniture repairsMaintain inventory of custodial supplies and equipment; submit requests for replenishment as neededMaintain required custodial documentation and records related to daily operationsPerform other duties as assignedMarginal Job Functions:Assist with special projects and event setup as neededProvide support to other district buildings when requiredPerform seasonal or periodic deep cleaning tasksAttend meetings or trainings as assignedQualifications:High School diploma or equivalent requiredPrevious custodial experience required; supervisory or lead experience preferredKnowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipmentAbility to lead, organize and prioritize work assignmentsPhysical Demands:Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 poundsFrequent standing, walking, bending, climbing and reachingAbility to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditionsEqual Opportunity Employer Revised May 2026
