Plant Laborer/Quality Control Tech

Position Summary Laboratory work including gathering samples and performing tests for production and quality assurance following established laboratory guidelines. Effectively document, interpret and communicate analysis results within the context of the production facilities to maintain product quality. The position also involves assisting with loading railcars and trucks when not performing lab duties. Responsibilities & Expectations Quality Control Testing / Production Support: Perform daily testing requirements, accurately sample and measure chemical and physical properties on all types of raw and finished products, environmental systems, and fuels following established laboratory guidelines. Maintain the quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials and components, processes and finished goods. Monitor performance by gathering data and producing statistical reports. Evaluate returned product and report findings to the impacted department. Read, write, and interpret documents such as work orders, bill of ladings, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Assist with tasks in other departments as needed and keep loadout scales clean of water and debris. Complete daily mobile equipment inspections when operating equipment. Demonstrate ability to maintain a smooth and efficient flow of truck and rail traffic and inspect truck trailers and railcars to ensure they are free from containments. Ensure different product types are distributed into the appropriate trucks/railcars and the proper weight is loaded for each shipment. Maintain chemical solutions, laboratory instruments, perform standardization or calibrations, and maintain a clean work environment. Collect and charge materials into designated equipment units accurately and efficiently. Comply with company, state, and governmental health and safety regulations at all times. Complete and document workplace inspections in a timely manner. Educate team members about plant quality control, assurance and awareness; ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated. Cross‑train in other areas as needed. Ensure federal, state, and local agency compliance standards; assess product specifications of the company and its suppliers and compare with the requirements of customers. Communicate with internal and external customers and report supplier audit activities. Support Environmental Health and Safety, and SQF initiatives and awareness programs; be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture. After completing SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance and Food Safety Culture; complete periodic SQF training(s). Actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site. Attributes / Qualifications Excellent communication skills and problem‑solving skills. Self‑motivated and able to work independently. Ability to complete required paperwork and mathematical assignments in a scientific format. Proficiency in Microsoft‑based computer systems for data entry and retrieval. Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing procedures and equipment. Previous SAP Quality Assurance module experience preferred. Proficient in computer software applications for equipment control, data collection and analysis. Physical Demands Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust. Walk up and down stairs and ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces. Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds. Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, peers, external truck drivers, and dispatchers with the ability to multi‑task and stay calm under pressure. Open and close latches for doors on shipping containers, trucks and railcars. Education High School Diploma or GED (required). Associate degree in a science‑based program preferred. Experience Minimum 1 year laboratory / Quality Control experience preferable in the cement or lime industry (required). Minimum 3 years laboratory / Quality Control experience preferable in the cement or lime industry (preferred). Experience as a Bulk Loader or in a related position in industrial or manufacturing industry.
