Description: The SICU requires a registered nurse with strong CVICU experience. The population in the SICU includes trauma patients, cardiovascular surgery patients, neurosurgery patients, and other complicated surgical patients. Key skills include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, arterial line management, and blood product administration. Common diagnoses include acute ventilator needs, severe COVID-19 cases, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleeds, trauma cases, and multi-system organ failure. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:2-3, depending on skill level and patient acuity. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Travelers may float within their scope of practice to meet facility needs. This unit accommodates various critical procedures and utilizes a range of specialized equipment, including ventilators and CRRT machines. Candidates are expected to have experience handling ventilated patients and managing multi-system organ dysfunction or failure. The unit fosters interdisciplinary support from various services including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy among others.
