Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Essential responsibilities are designated by *. Performs routine custodial activities at an assigned campus site or facility; sweeps, scrubs, mops, strips, waxes, and polishes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other work areas; spot cleans and shampoos carpets. *Cleans classrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, auditoriums, lounges, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other facilities as assigned; dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; empties waste receptacles; spot mops spills; removes gum, debris, and graffiti as needed. *Operates custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, and other equipment as assigned; operates a forklift as assigned by the position; may drive a vehicle to conduct work. *Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains and restroom facilities, including sinks, toilets, and urinals; fills dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; washes mirrors, tile, walls, and windows; unclogs drains and toilets. *Picks up paper and other debris from campus grounds, walkways, and areas, adjacent to campus facilities; sweeps concrete surfaces adjacent to campus buildings; plows snow from roads and walkways; spreads ice-melt on walkways as required. *Replaces light bulbs and tubes; cleans boards, trays, and erasers; empties pencil sharpeners; cleans tables, chairs, and floors. *Prunes and irrigates flowers, trees, grass, and shrubs as assigned by the position; picks up debris following assigned tasks; uses blower to clean path of travel at building entrances and walkways. *Locks and unlocks doors, gates, and windows as appropriate; turns lights on and off as needed; maintains security of assigned areas according to established guidelines; sets alarms as appropriate. *Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; prepares classrooms, gymnasiums, and other facilities for special events or meetings as assigned; sets up and assembles chairs, tables, and other furniture and equipment; cleans up furniture, equipment, and debris following these events. *Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; reports needs for maintenance and repairs to appropriate authority. *Participates in the thorough cleaning and restoration of campus facilities during vacation periods. *Sanitizes areas assigned after identified COVID-19 case. *Handles emergency operations after hours – Cal Safety communication for campus alarms. *Performs related duties that support the overall objective of the position.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED AND At least one (1) year of related work experience OR Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required the required qualifications for the position. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Two (2) years of working experience performing custodial work for a public agency or educational institution. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors, and the ability to adjust focus; requires near visual acuity to write, read directions and product labels, and to observe work in progress. Employees are frequently required to walk and stand and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis (1-100 times per day). SELECTION PROCESS After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. Videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) will be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will recommend finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.
