Maintenance Technician

Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician (B-Shift) 2 pm-10 pm

This role supports a food production environment by troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving production equipment with a strong emphasis on electrical systems, while also providing mechanical and basic controls support. You will ensure that processing and packaging equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, with a particular focus on PLC-controlled systems and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and assist with controls-related issues to ensure stable and efficient operation of production lines.
• Maintain and repair electrical panels, drives, sensors, and control systems operating from 24V to 480V to minimize unplanned downtime.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on conveyors, motors, processing equipment, and packaging machinery to keep production running smoothly.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to extend equipment life and reduce equipment failures.
• Support production line changeovers, equipment startups, shutdowns, and sanitation-related disassembly and reassembly activities.
• Utilize the EAM system to accurately document maintenance work, record parts usage, and track equipment history.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and performance.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and installations to support production needs and process improvements.
• Work collaboratively with operators and other maintenance technicians across shifts to troubleshoot issues and share best practices.
• Ensure all work complies with GMP, HACCP, FDA, and safety standards to maintain a safe and compliant food production environment.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to troubleshoot PLC systems and support controls-related issues in a production environment.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills with experience working on panels, drives, sensors, and control systems from 24V to 480V.
• Hands-on mechanical troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing and repairing conveyors, motors, and processing equipment.
• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
• Demonstrated experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment.
• Proficiency using an EAM or CMMS system to document maintenance activities and track equipment history.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with production and maintenance teams across shifts.
• Strong commitment to working safely and following GMP, HACCP, FDA, and plant safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a food production or regulated manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement initiatives and equipment reliability programs.
• Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems in a multi-craft maintenance role.
• Ability to support equipment upgrades, modifications, and new installations.
• Willingness to work on B-Shift and support cross-functional teams as needed.

Work Environment

This position is on 2nd Shift (2:00 pm 10:30 pm) in a food production facility that operates processing and packaging lines. You will work around PLC-controlled equipment, electrical panels, conveyors, motors, and systems using 24V to 480V power, as well as hydraulics and pneumatics. The environment follows strict GMP, HACCP, FDA, and safety standards, requiring adherence to plant procedures and safe work practices. You will use tools, test equipment, and an EAM system to perform and document maintenance activities while collaborating closely with production and maintenance teams on the production floor.

This is a Permanent position based out of Suffolk, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr. Direct hire benefits day 1.
