Payroll Specialist

Position: Payroll Specialist Location: Okemos, Michigan | Onsite Pay: $28-$30, plus bonus Our client, a mission-driven organization with operations across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees while partnering closely with HR, Benefits, and operational teams. Why You'll Love This Opportunity Work for a mission-focused organization making a positive impact in the communities it serves Outstanding work-life balance, including half-day Fridays during the summer and 3:00 PM Fridays throughout the remainder of the year Generous paid time off package, including 4 weeks of PTO plus an additional 72 hours of paid time off Collaborative and supportive team culture Opportunity to broaden your payroll expertise across multiple states and locations Stable organization with long-term career growth potential Meaningful work where your contributions directly support employees and organizational success Payroll Specialist Key Responsibilities Process semi-monthly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple locations Review, validate, and audit payroll and timekeeping data to ensure accuracy and compliance Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee questions, and compensation issues Generate payroll reports and conduct quality control reviews before payroll submission Process payroll adjustments, special calculations, and off-cycle payroll transactions as needed Partner with HR and Benefits teams to accurately administer leaves of absence and benefit-related payroll changes Support payroll tax reporting, reconciliations, year-end processing, and other compliance-related activities Maintain employee payroll records and documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements Assist with government reporting and payroll-related audits Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, time reporting, and employment verification requests Stay current on payroll laws, regulations, and industry best practices Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information Payroll Specialist Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of payroll Experience processing payroll in a high-volume or multi-location environment preferred Strong understanding of payroll practices, wage and hour compliance, and payroll regulations Experience with payroll and HRIS systems; Paylocity experience is a plus Experience with timekeeping systems and payroll audits preferred Knowledge of garnishments, child support orders, tax withholdings, and other payroll deductions Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines Proficiency in Google Workspace and payroll-related technology Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion #INSEP2026 #J-18808-Ljbffr
