The Field Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and quality execution of low voltage systems including Structured Cabling, Audio-Visual (AV), Access Control, Cameras, and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). This role supports project success through safe, efficient, and professional field execution while maintaining company standards for workmanship, documentation, and customer experience.

The Field Technician works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Lead Technicians to ensure projects are installed correctly, on schedule, and aligned with project specifications and company standards.

• Reports functionally to: Project Managers
• Reports administratively to: Operations Manager

Responsibilities

Installation & Field Execution

• Install, route, terminate, label, and test low voltage data cabling including copper, fiber, coaxial, and other specialty cabling
• Install and mount AV, security, access control, DAS, and network infrastructure equipment according to project drawings and manufacturer standards
• Perform device installation including displays, speakers, cameras, access control hardware, antennas, racks, patch panels, and related equipment
• Maintain organized cable management, labeling, grounding, and firestopping practices
• Read and interpret floor plans, risers, wiring diagrams, schematics, and project documentation
• Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and basic commissioning activities
• Escalate technical or project issues appropriately to field leadership or project management
• Complete punch list items and corrective actions efficiently and professionally

Quality & Safety

• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and customer site rules
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites
• Ensure installations meet company quality standards, manufacturer requirements, NEC/TIA standards, and applicable codes
• Protect customer property, finishes, and installed equipment during construction activities
• Participate in quality checks, testing procedures, and project closeout activities
• Maintain accurate labeling, documentation, and test records

Team Collaboration & Communication

• Communicate clearly with Project Managers and Superintendents
• Support team productivity and assist other technicians as needed
• Maintain a professional, courteous, and appropriate demeanor on a variety of jobsites, from construction sites to finished office environments

Technical Growth & Continuous Improvement

• Develop proficiency in multiple areas of expertise within the company
• Learn and apply company installation standards and best practices
• Support continuous improvement efforts that reduce rework, callbacks, and inefficiency

• Installations are completed safely, neatly, and correctly the first time
• Projects remain on schedule with minimal rework or punch list items
• Field documentation and labeling are accurate and complete
• Customers and Project Managers trust the quality of field execution

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience in low voltage, AV, security, DAS, telecommunications, electrical, or related construction environments preferred
• Basic understanding of low voltage systems, cabling methods, and installation practices
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and installation documentation
• Familiarity with cable types including Cat6, fiber, coaxial, and related low voltage infrastructure
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work in active construction environments
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
