Organization: VWCH ASC OR Job Summary The Certified Surgical First Assist (PRN) functions in an expanded role as a CST First Assistant to the surgeon. Responsibilities include patient positioning, prepping and draping, providing hemostasis, maintaining wound exposure, and handling sutures and tissue under the direction and supervision of the operating surgeon. When not functioning in the First Assist role, this position may perform duties as a Surgical Technologist. Shift Details PRN – Details to be discussed during the interview process. Key Responsibilities Act as Certified Surgical First Assistant (C‑SFA) during operative procedures. Assist surgeon on surgical procedures with hemodynamics, suturing, and retracting. Assist OR staff as requested. Adhere to practices and policies outlined to ensure patient safety and follow infection control standards. Perform as a Surgical Technologist when not First Assisting. Qualifications Required: Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical assistant training program during service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States. Required: Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience. Required: Registration with the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners. Required: Certification from one of the listed issuers below (CSFA, CSA, CS‑A, SA‑C). Preferred: CST – Certified Surgical Tech – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR TS‑C – Tech in Surgery – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Available certifications: CSFA – Certified Surgical First Assistant – NBSTSA. CSA – Certified Surgical Assistant – NSAA. CSA – Certified Surgical Assistant – NCCSA. SA‑C – American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA). LIC‑Registered Surgical Assist‑Tennessee – Tennessee.
