Med/Surg RN

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages across multiple specialties including Medical/Surgical, Emergency Department, and ICU. The role requires independent clinical decision-making, coordination of patient care activities, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse administers medications, performs assessments, develops and implements care plans, educates patients and families, and ensures adherence to safety and quality standards. Flexibility to float between different units and strong communication skills are essential. Responsibilities: Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications at hire.
• Minimum of one year clinical nursing experience preferred.
• Ability to perform nursing assessments, medication administration, and emergency interventions.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments.
• Must obtain flu vaccine and submit two fingerprint cards upon acceptance.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in specialty areas such as Med/Surg, ED, or ICU.
• Certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six months of employment.
• Prior experience with emergency procedures and specialty equipment.
• Experience in patient education and staff mentoring.

Special Considerations:

• Must be willing and able to float between Medical/Surgical, Emergency Department, and ICU units as needed.
• Must comply with infection control and safety standards including flu vaccination requirement.
• Accountable for delegation and supervision of nursing assistants and technicians.
• Ability to manage stressful and emergent clinical situations calmly and effectively.

Scheduling:

• Work both day and night shifts as necessary.
• Shift assignments may vary based on unit needs and staffing requirements.
