Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor and Delivery

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a specialization in Labor and Delivery. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience and demonstrated expertise in both Labor & Delivery and Couplet Care. This position requires a commitment to excellence in patient care and effective teamwork within a dynamic nursing environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care in the Labor and Delivery unit, including antepartum, labor, and postpartum care.
• Perform assessments, including sterile speculum exams, fetal monitoring, and triage of obstetrical patients.
• Administer medications and IV therapy, and manage continuous fetal monitoring.
• Assist with high-risk deliveries, including circulating for C-sections and recovering patients in PACU.
• Provide newborn care, including assessments, thermoregulation, and parent education on infant care.
• Deliver pain management services using various techniques such as epidurals and PCA.
• Support mother-baby bonding and breastfeeding protocols while providing education and assistance to new parents.
• Implement isolation precautions and administer vaccines as needed.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in Labor and Delivery and Couplet Care.
• Current certifications: AWHONN Beginner/Intermediate, BCLS, FHM, and NRP.
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and various medications such as anticoagulants and insulin drips.
• Ability to manage diverse obstetric patients and perform necessary procedures such as amnioinfusion and fetal monitoring.
• Knowledge of postpartum care including care for C-section and vaginal delivery patients.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced.
• Experience with triage in obstetric settings.

Work Details

• Target Ratios: L&D 1:1-2; Couplet Care 1:3.
• Contract length of 13 weeks; 36 hours per week available.
• Shift: 12-hour Night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• Weekend shifts required (8 shifts per contract).
• Call may be required based on unit census, though floating to other units is infrequent.

Unit Information

The unit encompasses 15 rooms and 17 beds, catering primarily to low-risk obstetric patients. The setting includes 8 LDRP rooms, 3 observation rooms, and 3 triage rooms. All necessary equipment is available to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Orientation and Schedule

Orientation includes 24 hours of training, with hospital orientation in addition to hands-on unit training. Candidates must be available for classes each day. Flexible scheduling may be accommodated for approved time off.

Scrubs

Scrubs will be provided (color: blue).
