Job Description and Duties

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST – DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / NATURAL RESOURCES / HOLLISTER HILLS STATE VEHICULAR RECREATION AREA 

The reporting location for this position is Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area in Hollister, CA, in in the Gabilan Mountains and features over 6800 acres and offers off-highway vehicle, hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails.. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).

The Environmental Scientist works at the entry level in a team environment for Diablo Range District to support the Off-Highway Vehicle Program. The incumbent will independently identify problems, develop courses of action, conduct critical sensitive scientific investigations/studies and may prepare guidance, policy, planning, or regulatory documents and legislative proposals on issues of importance and do other related work.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions

Work environment may have moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, elevations, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May involve exposure to aggressive visitors. Frequent work outside of office. Work in a range of climatic environments from hot, dry deserts, coastal beaches, cool forests, and mountainous areas. May be exposed to extreme weather and traffic conditions. Operate and navigate 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, RUVs or motorcycles in remote park locations. Walking or hiking into remote areas of parks with a wide range of terrain.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
