About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience and some postpartum experience. Comfortable working in both Labor and Delivery and Postpartum. Ability to work with high-risk patients. Must be able to circulate in C-sections. Experience with titratable drips, especially Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin preferred. Description: The unit has 11 Labor and Delivery rooms that also serve as triage rooms. There are 2 C-Section suites and 2 PACU recovery bays on the floor. Typically, there are 2 designated triage rooms, averaging 4-5 triage patients per day returning home. The unit has 17 postpartum beds. On average, there are 5-6 deliveries per day, totaling 150-180 deliveries per month. The unit follows AWHONN staffing guidelines: 1:1 for Intrapartum, 1:1-3 for Antepartum, and 1:3-4 for Postpartum/Mother-Baby. Registered Nurses are not expected to read and interpret their own telemetry strips but should be able to identify rhythm changes and life-threatening rhythms. There are Telemetry Techs in-house, and RNs are supported by a Resource Nurse who does not take patient assignments unless necessary. OBs are in the unit during weekdays and are on-call at night. Neonatologists are available during the day, and Neonatology APP coverage is present at night. A CRNA is available in-house for anesthesia support. Respiratory Therapists manage equipment and administer treatments 24/7. Travelers are expected to be flexible in scheduling and may be floated throughout the facility as needed. Navy blue scrubs are required for RNs, while maroon scrubs are designated for CNAs. There will be a 3-day orientation period with a preceptor in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum, and collaboration with providers is highly encouraged.
