Nursing & Attendance Services Specialist

Substitute Nurse BCTC has an ongoing need for day-to-day substitute Nurses at our East (Oley) and West (Leesport) Campuses. LPN or RN license required as well as CPR certification. Responsible for providing first aid to students/staff and assisting students with administering medication as required. Please refer to the attached Notice of Vacancy and ADA Position Specifications for the performance responsibilities. Qualifications include: Associate's degree in related field preferred (will consider equivalent work experience); must possess high school diploma or GED. Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional decorum at all times. Effective communications (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Candidate must be at least 21 years of age and be willing to complete a child abuse (Act 151), criminal (Act 34), FBI clearance check (Act 114) and a School Personnel Health Record prior to the first day of employment. Schedule: Substitutes will be contacted on an as-needed basis. Salary: $125/day or $62/half day.

Nursing & Attendance Services Specialist

Department: Student Services and Clerical Teams

Classification: Support Staff

Reports To: Supervisor of CTE/Assistant Principal and Principal

Licenses/Certifications: A. LPN or RN License. B. First Aid, CPR and AED certification.

Qualifications: A. Associate's degree in related field preferred (will consider equivalent work experience); must possess high school diploma or GED. B. Minimum of three (3) years administrative support and/or accounting experience preferred. C. Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional decorum at all times. D. Must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to prioritize work, meet deadlines, multi-task, work as a team member and solve daily problems with minimal supervision. E. Effective communications (written and oral) and interpersonal skills required. F. Must be proficient with PC, office equipment, related software programs and the internet. G. An exemplary attendance record is required.

Position Goal: Provide first aid and supplemental nursing services to students and staff as required; support and coordinate student attendance with the participating districts.

Responsibilities: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

I. Emergency First Aid & Supplemental Nursing Services

• Ascertaining the level of injury a student or staff member has sustained.
• Determining the next level of treatment after first assessment.
• Providing for interventions, which may include, but aren't limited to, stopping bleeding, splinting fractures, performing advanced life saving techniques such as rescue breathing, the Heimlich maneuver, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or use AED as needed.

B. Complete incident reports for students who sustain injuries requiring further treatment and obtain information for workmen's compensation claims for injured employees. Maintain a log of all referrals to the Nurse's office.

C. Maintain first aid kits in designated classrooms.

D. Insure proper handling & disposal of blood borne pathogens and coordination of waste pickup.

E. Work directly with each school district's Certified School Nurse (CSN) to support and provide supplemental nursing services to students while at BCTC. Communicate with school nurses at each district, parents, BCTC teachers, and outside agencies regarding injuries, illnesses and medical information/problems as needed. F. Obtain individual student medical records from each participating school district, maintain those records at BCTC and provide nursing services consistent with each student's individual plan in cooperation with each district CSN. G. Maintain confidentiality of all medical records and information consistent with JOC policy and procedures. H. Assist students with administering medication as required by physician and stated in the students individualized medical plan. I. Order safety supplies for nurse's office and first aid kits as needed. Maintain emergency equipment (e.g., Automated External Defibrillator -AED) including keeping an inventory and log of all equipment and preventive maintenance. J. Annually update BCTC standing orders, emergency response procedures, etc. in cooperation with BCTCs Doctor of Record.

II. Attendance

• Process and maintain student attendance information in cooperation with the participating districts and consistent with BCTC procedures; create student attendance reports as requested.
• Retain student attendance records consistent with BCTCs Records Retention Policy.
• Communicate and verify with sending schools, parents, guidance and teachers concerning student absences and attendance issues. Notify staff when a school will not be in attendance, will be arriving late or leaving early.

III. General

• Participate on school wide committees including the Safety Committee, Wellness Committee, etc.
• Support the continuous improvement process as necessary.
• Maintain ongoing communication with and actively support the student services team and the goals and objectives of BCTC.
• Other related duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis by the Assistant Principal/Supervisor, Principal and/or designee.

Term of Employment: Full-time position, schedule congruent with Secretarial/Clerical Calendar (AD- 222) during the school year. An additional ten (10) days will be added: Five (5) days before the start of the school year and five (5) days after the last day of the school year.
