Quality Inspector - 2nd & 3rd Shift

Position Summary
The Quality Inspector is responsible for verifying product and process compliance throughout the manufacturing lifecycle by conducting inspections, audits, testing, and quality assessments. This position ensures products meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality management system standards.
The role requires strong analytical skills, technical knowledge, and attention to detail to identify nonconformances, support root cause investigations, validate manufacturing processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Inspector works closely with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, and customers to promote product quality, process effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform in-process, final, and tollgate inspections to verify product compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and customer requirements.
- Conduct visual, dimensional, functional, and mechanical inspections using appropriate measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
- Perform or witness electrical and functional testing in accordance with established procedures and acceptance criteria.
- Collect process and material samples for laboratory analysis and quality verification, as required.
- Audit manufacturing processes, inspection activities, documentation, and products to verify compliance with internal procedures, engineering standards, customer specifications, and quality management system requirements.
- Identify, document, investigate, and disposition nonconforming materials, products, and processes in accordance with established quality procedures.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities by collecting and analyzing quality data.
- Monitor manufacturing processes using Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques and other quality tools to identify trends, reduce variation, and improve process capability.
- Validate critical manufacturing processes through scheduled sampling, monitoring, and verification activities.
- Prepare inspection reports, audit findings, nonconformance reports, and other quality documentation using electronic systems.
- Verify calibration status of inspection and test equipment and support compliance with quality management system requirements.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Planning, and Suppliers to resolve quality issues and implement process improvements.
- Assist with customer inspections, internal audits, supplier evaluations, and regulatory or certification audits as required.
- Train and mentor employees on quality standards, inspection methods, and compliance requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems, inspection methods, and quality assurance principles.
- Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, inspection plans, and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality management or manufacturing software systems.
- Ability to build productive working relationships across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to safely work in manufacturing environments, including elevated work areas and confined spaces when required.
- Ability to safely operate mobile elevated work platforms and other inspection support equipment following appropriate training.
Education and Experience
Required
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience in manufacturing quality inspection, quality assurance, production, or a related industrial environment.
Preferred
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Quality, or a related technical field.
- Five or more years of experience in manufacturing quality, inspection, or process auditing.
- Certification through the American Society for Quality (ASQ), such as Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or equivalent professional certification.
- Experience working within an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking throughout the workday.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and working in awkward positions.
- Ability to access elevated work areas and confined spaces when necessary to complete inspections.
- Ability to safely use ladders, mobile elevated work platforms, and other inspection equipment.
- Ability to lift inspection tools and equipment as required.
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing environment involving production equipment, fabrication, assembly, testing, and inspection operations.
- Exposure to moving machinery, elevated work areas, industrial noise, and varying environmental conditions.
