Our organization is in search of a Unit Chief for the Co-Occurring Disorders Inpatient Service, as well as a Medical Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and an Outpatient Medical Director.

We are looking for a Unit Chief psychiatrist who has completed an addiction psychiatry fellowship or possesses relevant experience in treating substance use disorders. This role is part of a transformative, community-focused facility dedicated to behavioral health, integrating mental health, substance abuse, physical health, and social services. Situated on the Lower East Side, our Behavioral Health Center provides avenues for leadership, professional growth, education, and research within the Department of Psychiatry.

The Icahn School of Medicine at our institution is seeking a leader with an academic focus to take on the role of Medical Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at our hospital campus. Our Psychiatry Department is among the largest behavioral health programs in New York City, featuring exceptional clinical, research, and educational initiatives. The Medical Director will oversee all clinical operations at this campus, which also hosts a Psychiatry residency program and various subspecialty fellowships.

The Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine is a dynamic community of clinicians, researchers, educators, and trainees dedicated to uncovering the causes of mental illness and substance use disorders while improving treatment options. Our Behavioral Health service line includes clinical services at multiple locations, including Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West, and Mount Sinai Queens.

Responsibilities of the Co-Occurring Disorders Inpatient Service:

• Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary academic inpatient psychiatry team, which includes psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, psychologists, nursing staff, social workers, counselors, and occupational therapists.
• Engage in the assessment and treatment of adult patients experiencing acute psychiatric conditions requiring inpatient care.
• Provide clinical oversight for psychiatry residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees within the inpatient psychiatry service.
• Participate in educational initiatives, including lectures and case conferences as organized by the Department of Psychiatry.
• Work collaboratively with training program directors on all administrative and clinical responsibilities.
• Partner with department and leadership to ensure the provision of high-quality, safe care.
• Assess the training needs of clinical staff and implement quality improvement measures.
• Ensure timely and complete documentation.
• Contribute to regulatory compliance and maintain readiness for accreditation.
• Exemplify professionalism, high-quality patient care, educational excellence, and a scholarly approach to work.
• Foster an environment that encourages respectful dialogue.
• Optionally conduct a faculty practice under the auspices of the Faculty Practice if desired.

Clinical/Technical/Service Duties:

• Supervise the activities of assigned residents or fellows; review and validate resident documentation, and provide direct patient care.
• Sign medical records and related patient care documents as mandated by regulations.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals across various disciplines and locations for coordinated patient care and transfer approvals.
• Engage in the peer review process.
• Attend departmental meetings.
• Participate in direct patient care activities as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
• Demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the patient population.
• Contribute to departmental Quality and Safety initiatives.
• These responsibilities may be adjusted periodically by the Chair/Director based on institutional needs.

Qualifications:

• Board certified or board eligible Psychiatrist.
• Completion of an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship (preferred) or experience in evaluating and treating individuals with substance use disorders.
• Possession of a valid NYS medical license.
• Strong clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills are essential.
• Exceptional teaching abilities.
• A collaborative and proactive approach, demonstrating a commitment to high-quality, cost-effective healthcare.
• A robust work ethic and a desire to contribute to a team-oriented, performance-driven department.
• Qualifications for the role of Assistant Professor or a higher level are required.

Compensation: The salary range is between $255,000 and $300,000 (excluding bonuses, incentive compensation, or benefits).

Actual salaries may vary based on factors such as experience, specialties, historical productivity, collections, and community needs. Therefore, actual salaries may be closer to either end of the range and, in some cases, may fall outside the listed range. The stated salary range is applicable to full-time positions and does not include bonuses or benefits.
