Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide comprehensive outpatient psychiatric care to pediatric and adult patients. This position is responsible for psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning, and ongoing behavioral health services.

The PMHNP works collaboratively with behavioral health therapists, substance use counselors, primary care providers, care coordinators, case managers, and community partners to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based care. The ideal candidate is committed to whole-person health, interdisciplinary collaboration, and expanding access to high-quality care for underserved and culturally diverse populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and provide diagnoses and medication management for pediatric and adult patients in an outpatient setting.

• Assess and treat mental health and substance use disorders using evidence-based clinical practices.

• Provide Medication-Assisted Treatment, including initiating, prescribing, and managing approved medications for opioid, alcohol, and other substance use disorders.

• Monitor medication effectiveness, adherence, withdrawal symptoms, cravings, side effects, and overall patient progress.

• Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams.

• Incorporate medication management, counseling, behavioral therapies, and recovery support services into comprehensive treatment plans.

• Order, interpret, and monitor laboratory studies and diagnostic tests required for safe psychiatric medication management.

• Identify patients who require a higher level of care and coordinate referrals to specialty psychiatric services, addiction treatment, crisis services, or inpatient care.

• Collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, case managers, recovery support services, and community partners to provide integrated care.

• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete electronic health records.

• Ensure prescribing, documentation, and clinical practices comply with applicable federal and state regulations, payer requirements, organizational policies, and clinical guidelines.

• Participate in quality-improvement activities and support organizational performance measures, including HRSA and value-based care initiatives.

• Provide clinical education and support to staff members and learners as requested.

• Maintain required licensure, certifications, continuing education, credentialing, and clinical privileges.

• Participate in required training, education, and competency assessments.

• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Current certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

• Active and unrestricted Kansas Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license.

• Active and unrestricted Kansas DEA registration.

• Current Basic Life Support certification.

• Eligibility for professional liability coverage through applicable malpractice and federal coverage programs.

• Ability to successfully complete credentialing and privileging requirements.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and community partners.

• Demonstrated social and cultural sensitivity when working with ethnically and economically diverse populations.

• Commitment to patient education, preventive care, and improving access to care for underserved communities.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two years of experience in a community health center, outpatient behavioral health practice, or similar clinical environment.

• Experience treating both pediatric and adult behavioral health patients.

• Experience providing Medication-Assisted Treatment for substance use disorders.

• Experience working within an integrated or interdisciplinary care model.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, pharmacology, and medication management.

• Knowledge of current behavioral health and substance use treatment guidelines.

• Sound clinical judgment and the ability to recognize patients requiring crisis intervention or a higher level of care.

• Ability to manage a diverse outpatient caseload while maintaining accurate and timely documentation.

• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to an interdisciplinary team.

• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and patient-education skills.
