Staff Development Coordinator

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) is seeking a Staff Development Coordinator to oversee training and professional development efforts across the North Dakota State Penitentiary and Missouri River Correctional Center. This position plays an important role in preparing employees for success by developing instructors, coordinating training initiatives, and maintaining consistent training standards.


This role works closely with facility trainers, supervisors, and staff to coordinate training programs, improve curriculum, and support employee development. The ideal candidate communicates effectively, enjoys mentoring others, and can balance day-to-day training responsibilities while maintaining consistent and effective training programs.


Summary of Work


As the Staff Development Coordinator, you will support training and development efforts for staff at the North Dakota State Penitentiary and Missouri River Correctional Center. This position coordinates training delivery, supports instructor development, and helps ensure training programs are consistent, effective, and aligned with operational needs.


Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating and delivering training programs, including New Employee Training and annual training requirements.
• Supporting classroom, hands-on, and online training for staff.
• Supervising Staff Development Officer and assisting with instructor development and certifications.
• Developing and updating curriculum, assessments, and training materials to meet operational and compliance needs.
• Evaluating training effectiveness and recommending improvements.
• Maintaining training records and managing online learning systems within PeopleSoft ELM.
• Assisting with planning related to training programs, facilities, equipment, and future training needs.

Minimum Qualifications


Option 1

• Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, security, or related military service.

Option 2

• High school diploma or GED and six years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, security, or related military service, including at least four years in corrections.
• Up to two years of college coursework may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
