Part Time - 20-29 hours Professional Portland, OR, US 2 days ago Requisition ID: 1396 Salary Range: $17.50 To $18.21 Hourly Schedule Schedule : Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm with 1 additional hour weekly for team meeting. During PPS scheduled in-service days, we operate full day camps and need staff coverage for various shifts between 7:30am - 6pm. This is a part-year position. Work hours during School Breaks (Spring, Fall, Winter, and Summer Camps) are not guaranteed and are dependent on enrollment and program needs. School Year Program runs August 17th, 2026 – June 11th, 2027. About Neighborhood House Neighborhood House is a non-profit agency providing social services for children, families, seniors, and people experiencing food and housing insecurity. We have been engaging in anti-poverty work for 125 years, offering a safety net to ensure that our community has the support they need to thrive. Our School Age Program Neighborhood House operates before and after school programs at four North and NE Portland elementary schools. Position Summary The Assistant Program Leader (APL) helps support the other teachers in developing and teaching curriculum each day as well as supporting students in social and emotional development. This position requires a person who is reliable, flexible, and ready to learn. This position is entry‑level and provides a chance to gain professional experience working with youth, developing curriculum, and being a part of a community‑based non‑profit. The APL will have the opportunity to design and implement a unique, age‑appropriate curriculum that fits the mutual interest of themselves and the kids they are working with. APLs work closely with the Program Leader and Program Coordinator to provide safe and structured learning and socio‑emotional development opportunities to children. APLs work 21 hours per week. Work hours revolve around programming times after school. Primary Responsibilities The Assistant Program Leader works with children in a 15:1 ratio, assisting with homework, group activities, recess and serving snacks. The APL supports with administrative duties as needed (make copies, turn in payments, etc.), communicates with parents and responds to emails and phone calls in a professional manner. In this role you will collaborate with members of your site and other sites, as well as attend meetings and trainings. You will be required to attend 20 hours of training each licensing year and submit to ORO. Job Duties Effectively works with school‑aged children at a 15 to 1 ratio, under the supervision of a teacher‑qualified staff person. Helps support students with assignments and school homework provided by their grade‑level teacher. Assists with homework and structured group activities and supervises free choice and recess. Supports the Program Coordinator and Program Leaders with lesson and activity planning and setup for the day. Learns and uses Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Communicates with parents at drop off and pick up. Learns and adheres to licensing regulations for the program and school rules and requirements. Obtains a minimum of 20 hours of job‑related training per licensing year and submit it to ORO. Is responsible for regular cleaning and maintenance of classrooms. Acts as a positive role model to youth. Communicates any student concerns to the Program Coordinator in a timely manner. Arrives to work on time to prepare the classroom for the day and be ready when children begin to arrive in the program. Required Skills and Qualifications Dedicated, reliable, organized with a strong interest in working with children and education Ability to use MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to analyze and problem‑solve. Minimum Qualifications Some experience working in an educational or camp setting preferred Must currently have or be able to obtain and maintain registration in the Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR). Food Handlers Card and CPR/First Aid Certification (obtain within 30 days of employment - cost covered by the organization). Experience with MS Office applications and technology.
