Job Description Summary

The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with Medical Providers and/or Medical Assistants with the examination and treatment of Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role is responsible for providing a variety of technical procedures and applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis for our Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role is responsible for performing and analyzing patient x-rays and reporting results to Medical Providers. Additional responsibilities include providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care Centers. In a collaborative manner, the Radiologic Technologist will provide support to Medical Providers, Medical Assistants and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.

Job Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma required; Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required
• Work Experience: Experience in a clinical setting preferred
• Required Licenses/Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA); American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire; State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law)

Essential Functions

• Responsible for x-ray services as needed
• Under the direction of the clinical provider, perform x-ray services for patients by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly
• Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipment and protected during use. May need to push patient in a wheelchair
• Patient Preparation and Rooming: Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, which includes conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirm purpose of visit; Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalation of critical cases to provider as needed
• Conduct point-of-care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to provider
• Administrative: Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files; Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up on care; Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment; troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed

Other responsibilities include:

• Medical Team Support: Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment
• Support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly
• Patient Care: Explaining procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety, and answering their questions
• Patient Positioning: Accurately positioning patients and equipment for optimal imaging results
• Image Production: Selecting proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images
• Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance, cleaning of X-ray equipment, and managing necessary supplies
• Radiation Safety: Adhering to strict radiation safety protocols and implementing ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff
• Documentation: Maintaining accurate patient records and logging completed procedures in electronic systems and/or logbooks as required
• Image Management: Verifying image quality and ensuring images are sent to radiologists for interpretation

Knowledge

• Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement
• Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology

Skills

• Positioning patients properly for the X-ray procedure required
• Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor
• Following infection control and radiological safety procedures
