Payroll Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our Orion Steel team. This dynamic Payroll Specialist is responsible for all aspects of day‑to‑day payroll including but not limited to data input, finance and HR reporting, and customer service. Responsibilities Prepare, verify, process, balance, and audit Canadian and US payrolls in accordance with provincial/state, local and federal legislation, policies and procedures Stay up to date on payroll compliance issues and ensure they are followed Audit time‑tracking data from UKG to maintain high accuracy for reporting and payroll processing Liaison for Workday/Tax services (working with Payroll Manager to report tax issues to tax representative, process W2C’s/amended T4s, etc.) Assist in the testing of the payroll system Process reports relating to union deductions, financial reporting, and government programs Provide recommendations for process improvements, including implementation and documentation Maintain and promote a safe, healthy and injury‑free environment Requirements 3–5 years of Accounting/Payroll experience required Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Human Resources is preferred Experience with Workday Payroll preferred Experience processing Canadian and US, salaried and union payrolls preferred Payroll certification preferred Experience with UKG system an asset Must be proactive and customer oriented, flexible and reliable Must be proficient with Excel and MS Office Suite Compensation Starting amount $80,000 Benefits Competitive wages and bonus opportunities Family medical, dental, and prescription coverage at minimal employee cost Short and long‑term disability programs Competitive retirement plans Employer‑provided and voluntary life insurance options Paid vacation and recognized statutory holidays Apprenticeship and career advancement within the company Tuition reimbursement While we thank all those who apply, only those being actively considered for employment will be contacted.
