Location: Albany, NY Category: Professional Positions Job Type: Full-time Posted On: Mon May 18 2026 The Office of Sustainability is looking for an individual to support the overall mission of the SUNY sustainability team, with a focus on engaging students and stakeholders across the campus network. The role oversees the SUNY Climate Corps internship program and implements a communications strategy that showcases SUNY’s leadership in sustainability and provides students with opportunities to engage. Duties And Responsibilities Work with campus sustainability leads to facilitate student and campus engagement efforts, supporting campuses with tools and resources for activities such as bike‑share programs, recycling campaigns, tree plantings, and outdoor recreational activities. Host outreach and education programs open to a wide audience; conduct surveys and sustainability assessments to guide efforts of the SUNY System Administration and campuses; communicate progress and challenges about campus engagement. Develop and implement a communication strategy that creates cohesion between the 64 campuses’ messaging; manage and maintain sustainability pages on the SUNY website, update course and program listings, publish research highlights, and produce short video pieces; draft posts for Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media. Oversee all aspects of the SUNY Climate Corps internship program, including recruiting agencies, developing contracts, supporting recruitment on Handshake, evaluating program progress, creating mentorship programs, and ensuring timely submission of agency paperwork; develop quarterly and annual reports to grantors. Help organize an annual SUNY sustainability conference. Collaborate with other SUNY offices to expand the reach of sustainability programming to prospective students. Assist in preparing annual SUNY and EO22 progress reports and related analyses during the reporting season. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, communications, or a related field. Three (3) years of relevant experience in program management, program development, or policy implementation with a sustainability or environmental theme. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create and foster professional connections and build stakeholder networks. Ability to work independently, generate and follow up on leads, anticipate project needs, and initiate work while knowing when to seek guidance. Willingness to contribute to team projects. Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated commitment to the sustainability field. Experience in program evaluation and/or strategic planning. Knowledge of environmental and climate change issues. Design, photography, and video creation and editing skills. Social media skills. Web design experience. Additional Information Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis; VISA sponsorship is not available. Position located in Albany, NY. Travel to campuses and conferences may be required. Salary range: $54,000–$62,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and certifications. The state title is Staff Assistant (SL‑2) and the position is part of the United University Professions Union.
