Description of Work

This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide variety of vehicles and equipment used by the agency. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Mechanical Repairs: Perform repairs and overhauls on vehicles and construction equipment, including engines, transmissions, and electrical components
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, tune ups, and adjustments on vehicle systems and equipment
• State Inspections: Complete official safety and emissions inspections, make needed repairs, and document records
• Equipment Diagnostics: Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and determine appropriate repair methods
• Safety Practices: Maintain a clean and safe work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or hazards
• Field Adjustments: Make routine adjustments, minor repairs, and demonstrate repair techniques to other employees

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Shifts may vary seasonally, due to weather, and based on operational needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
