Oil Mill Lab Supervisor

Based in Southern San Joaquin Valley, J.G. Boswell Company, is engaged in the production, processing, and marketing of cotton, tomatoes, oil seeds, orchards, and cattle. JOB SUMMARY:

Lab Supervisor must run the oil mill laboratory safely and efficiently. The lab supervisor will take responsibility for all aspects of the lab, including equipment, employees, supplies, and documentation. Must act as the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) practitioner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

• Enter lab result data entry in excel and custom database daily.
• Ensure that samples are processed efficiently.
• Conduct sample analysis for soil, plant tissue, water, and oil mill products as needed.
• Maintain food safety programs. (GMP, SQF, AIB)
• Train technicians on the correct use of lab equipment.
• Maintain laboratory equipment through routine calibration, performance checks, and preventative maintenance to ensure accuracy, reliability, and safe operation.
• Mentor and discipline lab employees as needed.
• Ensure employees follow industry standards and safety regulations.
• Maintain laboratory written procedures.
• Schedule staff and maintain appropriate staffing levels for the department.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• 2-3 years’ experience in laboratory environment.
• 2 years Food Safety experience or knowledge preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid current California Drivers' license, which meets both our insurance company guidelines and J. G. Boswell Company’s Vehicle Use Policy.
• Ability to communicate and understand in English.
• Ability to navigate and use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
• Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.
• Must be observant, organized, and detail oriented.
• Must function well in a fast-paced environment.
• Desire and ability to learn.
