Senior Mechanical Tech II

Senior Mechanic Tech II – responsible for mechanical assembly, equipment support, failure analysis, and technical support for large mining trucks (LMT). Responsibilities Mechanical Assembly & Equipment Support – apply advanced mechanical skills to assemble, disassemble, and modify equipment and components; implement product improvements and technological enhancements on existing models; provide detailed technical support for component assembly, servicing, and field applications. Field Support & Testing – support equipment repair, field testing, and follow‑up activities; evaluate system performance and ensure proper operation under real‑world conditions. Product Development & Continuous Improvement – identify potential system issues, failure modes, and maintainability concerns during testing and operation; communicate findings clearly to engineering teams and provide recommendations for improvement; contribute to CI initiatives and capital projects focused on safety, quality, velocity, and cost. Collaboration & Safety – work closely with mechanics, engineers, technologists, instrumentation technicians, operators, and logisticians in a team environment; ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards; actively support Caterpillar’s culture of safety and continuous improvement. Mentorship & Leadership – mentor and train less experienced mechanics on proper procedures, safety practices, and technical skills; support team development and promote best practices across shop operations. Qualifications Advanced ability to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system issues and perform failure analysis. Strong hands‑on experience with assembly, disassembly, and modification of heavy equipment and components. Ability to collect, interpret, and document data to support engineering decisions and product improvements. Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all safety standards and procedures. Strong ability to work cross‑functionally and clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations. Experience contributing to CI initiatives that improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost. Experience in maintenance and repair of Caterpillar mining and/or construction equipment. Strong knowledge across multiple machine systems, including structures, engines, powertrain systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, electrical and electronic systems, and undercarriage systems. Additional Information Primary Location: Tucson Proving Ground – Green Valley, AZ (on‑site full‑time). Relocation: Not available. Travel: Up to 10% (including global field support).
