Residential Counselor (Brain Injury)

As a Residential Counselor, you will provide direct support to people with Brain Injury or behavioral conditions in a small group residential setting or an individual living arrangement. You will work with the residents, families, friends, employers, and support staff to build independence skills and improve quality of life. Responsibilities Assist individuals in the home to become integrated into their communities and develop and maintain friendships. Help individuals access community‑based support and resources. Plan recreational and social activities that promote social inclusion and emotional well‑being. Empower and support individuals to make choices, be self‑advocates, and participate in decisions about their supports and lives. Support individuals in accessing assistive technology and adaptive equipment. Help secure, maintain, and grow work, volunteer, and community engagement opportunities. Encourage and support individuals and involved families in maintaining strong partnerships with staff and other parties. Provide training and support in rehabilitative and behavioral interventions, fire & safety regulations, appointment scheduling, money management, ADLs, grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking, household chores, and use of generic resources. Perform hands‑on tasks in the program as required to implement support plans. Provide transportation as necessary. Assess physical and emotional status of individuals and report changes to supervisor. Monitor individual funds as needed. Maintain records for individuals, collecting behavior and academic data, progress notes, incident documentation, and routine activity logs. Procure, store, administer, document, and dispose of medication in accordance with MAP requirements and company policy. Communicate and provide information to program nurse, case managers, and Visiting Nurses Association. Participate in mandated training and staff meetings as directed by supervisor. Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory policies, procedures, and standards. Ensure home safety and maintenance, including general housekeeping, snow shoveling, and trash removal. Comply with corporate and divisional policies, including safe work practices, workers’ compensation, universal precautions, and exposure control. Complete paperwork and logs such as communication logs, community membership logs, and activity schedules. Provide shift coverage as necessary in other homes/programs as assigned. Serve as human rights advocate, providing physical intervention and/or first aid in emergencies and reporting to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission. Assist in developing, implementing, and documenting treatment, including ISP/PSTPs and clinical programs. Perform other related duties as required. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Driving Requirements Driving is required. Must maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least one year, adequate insurance, and a safe driving record. Must be at least 21 years old and pass driver screening background check. Physical Effort Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds using proper technique or two‑person lift, operate computer and office equipment, sit, reach, climb stairs, maneuver narrow spaces, and assist clients with daily tasks. Visual requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. Required Certifications CPR within two weeks of hire First Aid within two weeks of hire MAP within 150 days of hire PBS Tier 1 within 150 days of hire Safety Care within 90 days of hire CBIS certification (Certified Brain Injury Specialist) may be required Pay Range USD $21.27 – $21.27 / hr.
